Anne has devoted her career (& much of her personal time) to assisting adolescents and adults with communication, cognitive and swallowing difficulties. After obtaining her Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology, in 1985, from the University of Iowa, Anne moved up to Anchorage to live and work here full time. The first time Anne came to Alaska, in 1982, she knew she would live in Alaska. She worked for few years in a medical rehabilitation and contract work for a hospital before starting her private practice in 1988. Anne continues to work mostly in private practice, but is also affiliated with medical facilities around the state.
In her “other” time, Anne is an avid trail and ultra-endurance runner, backpacker, traveler and cook. She has been married to her husband since 1985; they enjoy sharing their home with a succession of cute (rescue) dogs.
For more than 37 years, Anne has been providing expert speech-language pathology services throughout Alaska.
Anne was the first SLP in Alaska to provide specialized speech treatment for person with Parkinson’s Disease (LSVT-LOUD), x-ray swallow evaluations (MBSS), and specialized cognitive-communicative rehabilitation.
In recent years, Anne has been at the forefront of teletherapy services and speech/voice assistance for transgender/non-binary communicators.
Evaluations and treatment are totally individualized; relevant and functional skill development or retraining are the goals.
These goals are generated collaboratively with the client.
Common etiologies include: stroke, traumatic brain injuries, mild cognitive disorder, surgeries, neurodegenerative diseases, other trauma, and over-use.
While Anne’s office is not set up to do instrumental assessments of swallowing (MBSS, FEES), we can use this information and the clinical swallow evaluation to establish effective therapy and safety guidelines for swallowing skills.
We are not bound by proximity: Alaska is a large and diverse state, but we can use technology to establish appropriate evaluations and treatment for individual needs.
